Barbados Royals vs Saint Lucia Kings Preview: CPL 2022 Match 2

The Staint Lucia Kings take on the Barbados Royals in their second match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 on Sunday, September 4. The match will be played at Warner Park in Saint Kitts.

The Kings, who narrowly missed out on a victory in their opening match against Trinbago Knight Riders, will look to kick start their campaign with two points over the Royals.

The match, however, promises to be a difficult one for the Saint Lucia Kings as the Barbados Royals won their first match convincingly against defending champions Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots and will be eager to build on the momentum.

In what will be a big boost for the Kings, their talismanic captain Faf du Plessis is poised to return to the playing XI. Du Plessis has been in fine form with the bat in T20 cricket of late and his presence and experience is expected to lift the team.

David Wiese, Tim David and Niroshan Dickwella are also set to make the squad after missing out on the opener for Saint Lucia Kings. The fast-bowling all-rounder Wiese will add quality both in the bowling and batting departments, while David will bring in his explosive batting to the team.

The Kings’ batting already boasts in-form Roshon Primus and Mark Deyal, who both got to good starts and made wholesome contributions in the first match. Primus is coming off a fine 6ixty campaign, where he scored 101 runs in three matches and finished as the joint highest run-scorer in the group stages.

In the bowling department, Alzarri Joseph will look to get quick and important breakthroughs and continue his wicket-taking start to the CPL 2022. The pacer picked up four wickets against the Knight Riders with an excellent economy of 4.25. He will lead the line once again on Sunday.

The Kings need to look out for Royals’ Kyle Mayers. The opener scored an excellent 73 off 46 balls to guide his team to victory in their first match. Corbin Bosch also set a CPL record with five outfield catches for the Barbados Royals.
