CPL 2023: Saint Lucia Kings rope in Sean Williams and Chris Sole as replacements

Saint Lucia Kings have acquired the services of Zimbabwean all-rounder Sean Williams and Scotland pacer Chris Sole as replacements for the upcoming season of Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2023).

Williams will replace Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka, who has pulled out of CPL 2023.

On the other hand, Sole will be part of the team till the first week of CPL 2023, before Sri Lankan international Bhanuka Rajapaksa joins the franchise. He could become the first Scottish international to play in the CPL.

Both Williams and Sole will bring a wealth of experience to the Saint Lucia Kings squad.

Williams was in scintillating form as he finished as the leading run-scorer at the recently-concluded ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 in Harare, Zimbabwe. The 36-year-old scored 600 runs in seven matches at an average of 100 and a strike rate of 139.21.

The dynamic left-handed batter has represented the Zimbabwe national cricket team in 68 T20 internationals so far. He has scored 1,482 T20I runs with 10 fifties to his name. Williams has also picked up 43 T20I wickets at an economy of 6.93.

Sole was impressive for Scotland at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023. The 29-year-old right-arm pacer bagged 11 wickets in seven matches at an average of 25.

He has also played eight T20 internationals for Scotland.

Saint Lucia Kings will lock horns with defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs in the CPL 2023 opener at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia on August 16.
