Johnson Charles, Alzarri Joseph make West Indies T20 World Cup squad

Saint Lucia Kings’ stars Johnson Charles and Alzarri Joseph have made it to the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia next month.

The selection comes on the back of a splendid campaign both Charles and Joseph are enjoying in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League.

Seasoned opener Johnson Charles, who returns to the national team after six years, has been phenomenal for the Kings in CPL 2022, amassing 227 runs in six matches. The 33-year-old Saint Lucia native has also slammed two half-centuries, including a blazing 87 not out, this season’s highest individual score.

Charles’ innate ability to hit big from the first ball and provide solid starts to the team, along with his experience of winning two T20 World Cups - in 2012 and 2016 - will come in handy when the West Indies take the field in Australia in October.

While Johnson Charles let his bat do the talking, Alzarri Joseph grabbed eyeballs with his wicket-taking prowess in CPL 2022.

Joseph, 25, has troubled batters with his searing pace, racking up 12 wickets in six matches for the Kings at a meagre economy of 6.75. He currently leads the wicket-taking charts of CPL 2022.

This will be the first time Alzarri Joseph represents West Indies at a T20 World Cup.

Two-time champions West Indies begin their campaign against Zimbabwe on October 19 in the first round.
