Kings aim for resurgence against Amazon Warriors

Saint Lucia Kings will look to get their Caribbean Premier League 2022 campaign back on track when they host Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

While results didn’t go the Kings’ way in the first two matches, they picked up an impressive come-from-behind win in the third before a defeat in the previous game.

However, the upcoming matches can see their fortunes turn for good, with the lineup taking good shape and different players stepping up in every match.

The last fixture against Barbados Royals saw Tim David take up the mantle with a blazing 40 off 23 while Alzarri Joseph shone with the ball, snaring three wickets. The pacer currently leads the wicket-taking charts of CPL 2022 with 10 scalps.

Meanwhile, opener Johnson Charles has also looked in fine touch at home with scores of 62 and 29 in the last two innings.

The middle order is strengthened by the presence of Roshon Primus and David Wiese, who have chipped in with valuable contributions in almost all matches.

On the other hand, Guyana Amazon Warriors have struggled to get going and have two defeats in three matches while one game was washed out. They stand at the bottom of the table.

The Warriors’ star-studded lineup, featuring Shimron Hetmyer, Paul Stirling and Imran Tahir, hasn’t clicked this season but they hold the edge over Saint Lucia Kings in the head-to-head record.

Guyana Amazon Warriors and Saint Lucia Kings have faced each other 18 times, with the Warriors walking out victorious on 11 occasions.

However, form plays a big role in T20 matches and the Kings are in much better shape than their opponents for Saturday’s fixture.

The Kings have three losses and a win in four matches and currently stand at fifth in the points table. A win over Amazon Warriors can catapult them to the third spot.

Winning the toss will be crucial as chasing teams have won three of the four fixtures at Gros Islet this season while the fourth one was affected by rains.

A collective effort will be the key to putting Saint Lucia Kings back into contention and in the race for the playoffs spot.
