Kings take on Patriots in last match of home leg

Saint Lucia Kings will look to end their home leg of the Caribbean Premier League 2022 on a high when they square up against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Daren Sammy Stadium on Sunday.

Individual performances have been the highlight of the Kings' home stint, which started with a win, followed by two losses.

Opener Johnson Charles has been the standout player for Saint Lucia Kings, providing steady starts in all matches at Gros Islet. The right-hander slammed a blazing 62 in the win over Jamaica before the unbeaten 89-run blitzkrieg against Guyana in the previous game.

Charles' scoring spree has seen him climb to second in the run-scoring charts of CPL 2022 with 186 runs.

Meanwhile, Tim David has been anchoring the innings in the middle overs and scored a useful 23 in the last outing and a 23-ball 40 before that.

Both Johnson Charles and Tim David will be key to keeping intact Saint Lucia Kings’ narrow lead in the head-to-head record against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The Kings have won seven times in 13 contests, including four times in the last five games.

In the bowling department, speedster Alzarri Joseph, despite an underwhelming outing in the last match, still leads the wicket-taking charts with 10 scalps.

The bowling unit, however, will have to be wary of the Patriots’ big-hitting Andre Fletcher, who has already amassed 153 runs in three innings, averaging a massive 51.

The Patriots have a star-studded roster that is led by the talismanic Dwayne Bravo and features Evin Lewis, Sherfane Rutherford, Sheldon Cottrell and Akila Dananjaya, who are all more than capable of turning the game around single-handedly.

Despite the big names, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have only one victory to show from their three completed matches. Two of their games were abandoned due to rain. They stand third in the points table.

On the other hand, Saint Lucia Kings have dropped down to the last spot. However, only one point separates the Kings from the playoffs spot and a late surge in the tournament should see them through.
