While the following two games were abandoned due to rain, our players showcased unwavering determination, a trait that often leads to victory. Closing the first leg atop the Republic Bank CPL 2023 table, the anticipation builds for an equally exciting second leg in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Reflecting on our stint in Saint Lucia, here are the standout performers from the initial leg:
Roston Chase - 67 runs, 4 wickets
A shining star during our first leg, Roston Chase injected vitality into the Saint Lucia Kings' middle-order with his aggressive batting. His contribution extended beyond the bat, as Chase secured vital wickets at crucial moments.
Facing a target of 188 against Jamaica Tallawahs, our top-order faltered. Roston Chase arrived at the crease under immense pressure, aiming to rescue the game. His 53-run innings propelled us closer to the target, though ultimately, the effort fell slightly short. His four wickets across two matches displayed his adeptness in outsmarting opponents.
Expectations remain high for Chase in upcoming matches, given his all-round abilities that fortify Saint Lucia Kings.
Matthew Forde - 4 wickets
The catalyst for our strong start in the second match against Barbados Royals, Matthew Forde. The momentum began with Cornwall's comedic runout, setting the stage for us to defend a substantial total of 202.
Forde followed suit with a spell that haunted the Royal's batting lineup, creating a lasting impact on the 2023 CPL. Sean Williams - 73 runs
After a modest knock of 26 in his debut game, Sean Williams came alive in the second match. His 48-run inning propelled us to an impressive total of 201 against Barbados Royals.
His partnership with compatriot Sikandar Raza significantly influenced our innings. While limited batting opportunities have arisen, Williams' brisk scoring has undeniably influenced our matches. Darren Sammy hopes for his No.3 to sustain this positive form for Saint Lucia Kings.
Alzarri Joseph - 3 wickets
Our top wicket-taker from the 2022 CPL, Alzarri Joseph, commenced this season where he left off the prior campaign.
Although his three wickets in three matches may not fully illustrate his excellent bowling display, it's his disciplined approach that stands out. Joseph has maintained an economy rate below 6.50, a significant factor in limiting opponents from achieving daunting scores.
