Saint Lucia Kings announce squad for CPL 2021

Following the completion of the 2021 player draft, Saint Lucia Kings have announced their squad for the ninth edition of the HERO Caribbean Premier League. Last season’s finalists have made some shrewd signings for CPL 2021, alongside retaining most of their star performers from 2020 to build a strong squad overall. 

With former captain Darren Sammy retiring and transitioning into his new role as Team Mentor, the franchise have roped in South African batsman Faf Du Plessis to give the team some much needed experience. The 36-year-old previously played in the CPL in 2016, and has also represented many successful franchises all over the world in his long and illustrious career. 

Apart from Du Plessis, Saint Lucia Kings have also signed Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade and Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz, while West Indian bowling sensation Keemo Paul has been roped in as their marquee player for CPL 2021. The other big names added to the roster are of English all-rounder Samit Patel and Pakistani bowling all-rounder Usman Qadir, both of whom will be playing in the Caribbean Premier League for the very first time this year. 

Emerging West Indian cricketers Jeavor Royal, Kadeem Alleyne and seasoned Caribbean cricketer Keron Cottoy were also picked by the Saint Lucia Kings in the 2021 Player Draft. West Indian International bowler Alazarri Joseph was the final player picked in the Player Draft, thereby completing the Kings’ squad for CPL 2021. 

Earlier in the month, the Kings  also announced their player retentions, with the likes of Rahkeem Cornwall, Roston Chase, Kesrick Williams and many others continuing to ply their trade for the franchise.
